The OK Mozart International Festival has announced its official lineup for the 2014 event season, commemorating the festival’s 30th anniversary. Artists featured will include pianist Jon Kimura Parker, three-time Grammy nominee, singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Sarah Jarosz, and the Mirô Quartet, a nationally recognized chamber group. This year’s festival will convey the theme “Music of Vienna” during performances scheduled June 7 – 14, 2014 at venues across the Bartlesville area.
The opening night performance on Sunday, June 8, will include a performance of Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 “Titan” from the newly created OK Mozart All-State Youth Orchestra, which includes members of the Amici New York Orchestra playing alongside some of Oklahoma’s most talented young musicians.
Events will continue throughout the week with a formal Viennese Waltz Ball at the newly restored Johnstone-Sare Building in Bartlesville, a chamber concert featuring the Miró Quartet, a choral performance of Mozart’s opera, “The Magic Flute” by members of the Bartlesville Choral Society and the Amici New York Orchestra, and a performance by Sara Jarosz. There will also be an outdoor performance at the Woolaroc outdoor center featuring favorites by John Williams and John Phillip Sousa and ending with fireworks over the Woolaroc lake.
The finale event and 30th anniversary celebration will feature a performance of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 by over 100 on-stage performers including soloists handpicked from across the state.
In addition to its internationally acclaimed classical and chamber music concert series, OK Mozart presents a variety of performing arts, as well as a full program of related cultural events throughout its annual week-long festival.
