Harry Shearer of SPINAL TAP and “The Simpsons” fame tells us what to expect when he receives the Ernie Kovacs Award Friday, Oct. 17 th  at Dallas VideoFest 27 at Angelika Dallas.

The award is named after the pioneering comedian Ernie Kovacs of ’50s and early ’60s television who died in 1962.  “Before Ernie, TV was radio with pictures.   He was the first to understand that television is a visual medium, and to use it for comedy.”

Shearer, whose latest venture is the online series “Nixon’s The One”, will be honored for his many innovative contributions as actor, writer, and producer in a wide range of media.

“Every new media is interesting until the guys that run it figure out the formula”, he said, in his determination to stay ahead of such formulas.   For more about the event, go to videofest.org.
